USD 308 board to review KASB policy, confirm lead negotiator

The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education will face a light agenda at its regular meeting Monday at the district’s administrative center, located at 1520 North Plum St.
The board’s singular action item will be reviewing the Kansas Association of School Board’s policies and procedures.
The association’s website explains the cause behind the organization and said it installs methods to ensure a positive state education.
“The KASB equips members to become expert advocates with state and federal lawmakers and local stakeholders to build productive relationships at all levels of government,” the website reads. “Together, we continue to influence policies positively and fight to ensure that the state of public education in Kansas remains strong.”
The board will also consider consenting to the Superintendent’s list, which includes multiple items:
- The board will consider approving David Cunningham as lead negotiator for the district. Cunningham is a staff attorney for KASB and is a graduate of Washburn Law School.
- The board will approve an agreement with the Educational Services and Staff Development Association of Central Kansas, an organization designed to ensure cooperation between neighboring school districts.
- Approve $550 in gifts to Morgan Elementary School, with $300 to be used for school lunch money for students needing assistance and $250 to “be used for anything teachers are needing.”
- The October 2023 Financial Reports from the Treasurer
Following any discussion from the board, they will move into two executive sessions to discuss the evaluation of the Superintendent, Dr. Dawn Johnson, and to discuss the acquisition of real property.
