Reno County Commission to sign solar moratorium continuation on Wed

The proposed solar moratorium extension will be the main topic discussed at the Reno County Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, March 13. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Veterans Room in the Reno County Courthouse at 206 W 2nd Ave.
The commission is expected to sign a resolution continuing the prohibition of large-scale commercial solar power projects within unincorporated areas of Reno County. The resolution will also end the moratorium within zoned areas for smaller solar projects of less than 10 acres that produce 2 megawatts or less. The resolution continues to allow rooftop-only private projects.
Previous commission meetings in which solar power was on the agenda have generated vigorous public comment.
In other business, the commissioners will discuss vouchers, police vehicle purchases, the noxious weed annual management and eradication progress report, and the Kansas Rehabilitation Tax Credits Bid Award. They will also discuss the biennial routine bridge inspection contract agreement with Kirkham Michael and Travelers Insurance’s umbrella proposal.
The county’s Youth Services division will deliver its annual report, and the Reno County Health Department’s Aid-To-Local grant application to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment will be reviewed.
The next agenda item is the solar moratorium resolution discussion and vote, followed by routine monthly department reports. Commissioners’ reports and comments will segue into a short executive session to discuss attorney-client privileged matters.
