SOUTH HUTCHINSON- A new developing business hoping to become a center for hobbies and activities will soon be calling South Hutchinson home.
Melinda and Edward Dudley, owners of Schmabels Family Fun Center in South Hutchinson, created a new character for Hutchonians to learn about.
“The little characters on the front is what we kind of created for a schmabel,” Melinda said. “Like minions, we’ll have Schmabels all around the building. They’ll all be different but virtually the same.”
Inside the building, the couple plans to build a center for different hobbies and activities for people to enjoy.
“We will be doing new and used legos,” Melinda said. “We’ll be doing skateboards and disc golf. Magic the Gathering, Pokemon and [Dungeons & Dragons] will also happen.”
Customers will also be able to rent a party room dedicated to hosting events.
For those interested in learning different card or board games, Melinda said they will be offering free classes to learn how to play the games.
“We will be having classes for Lego building and Magic the Gathering and other things like that, where we will have events that kids can attend to learn more about how to build, how to play Magic and how to do some of those things,” Melinda said.
However, Schmabels won’t stop only at the storefront. The couple said they hope to build an online community where people can interact with each other and build relationships while not being in the store.
“We hope it gets the community together on the internet and then come in and use the equipment at Schambel’s to stream their own ideas,” Edward said. “It’s an idea we have that we hope the community would like something like that.”
The storefront is located at 324 Poplar St. in South Hutchinson. Melinda said she hopes the center will be open within six months.
“I’m excited,” Edward said. “It’s just a lot of work and it’s a time-consuming process, and we’ve been moving really slow because everything takes a while, but we are in the process of working. I’m hoping my ideas will transfer over to the community.”
For now, Hutchonians can follow Schmabels on Facebook, where the couple have been creating content.
