Cowley College outslugs HCC baseball team 23-22
The Cowley College Tigers outslugged the Hutchinson Blue Dragons 23-22 in a wild Jayhawk Conference baseball game Tuesday at Hobart Detter Field.
Cowley jumped out to a 16-4 lead, but the Blue Dragons scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the Tigers lead to 16-14. Cowley then scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to lead 23-14.
HCC pushed eight runs across in the bottom of the seventh to cut Cowley’s lead to 23-22.
Cody Gunderson went 4-of-5 with five RBIs. Colin Cymbalista had three hits. Five Blue Dragons collected two hits each — Hank Griffin, Jackson Summers, Jon Davis, Jordan Tucker and Mac Bowie.
Gunderson belted two homers and Pimentel-Guerrero one. Bowie doubled. Cymbalista and Tucker tripled. Pimentel-Guerrero drove in four runs, Griffin three, Summers three and Davis two.
Luis Pimentel-Guerrero drove in four runs. Griffin and Summers each drove in three runs.
HCC used nine pitchers in the game and allowed 20 hits. The Blue Dragons committed six errors.
Cowley also used nine pitchers and allowed 20 hits.
Cowley’s Keaton Campbell went 5-for-7, scored three runs and drove in six. Five Tigers rapped out two hits each — Cade Aldridge, Jadyn McNealy, Alex Conover, Hunter Alvord and Dawson Williams.
HCC (16-5) swept two doubleheaders from Garden City last Wednesday and last Saturday by a combined score of 45-3.
Hutchinson plays a 1 p.m. doubleheader Thursday against Butler Community College at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado, and then hosts the Grizzlies in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.
HCC softball team sweeps Labette
The Hutchinson Community College softball road warriors swept a doubleheader from Labette Community College Tuesday at Parsons.
HCC, playing in the seventh and eighth games of a 14-game road trip, won the first game 4-2 and the second game 6-0.
HCC (18-6) plays a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Seward County Community College’s Saints Field in Liberal.
The Blue Dragons play Butler Community College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Monday at East Park in El Dorado.
HCC plays a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Garden City Community College March 20 and then hosts Barton Community College in a 1 p.m. twinbill March 23 at Fun Valley in Hutchinson.
